The Sneezy Wheezy Day Children's Book Review And Giveaway ...

Sneezy Wheezy Day Cover

The Sneezy Wheezy Day

  • Author and Illustrator: Sharon Ceramer
  • Hardcover: 38 pages
  • Publisher: B & F Publishing (2012)
  • Language: English
  • Genre: Children?s fiction
  • ISBN: 978-0-9839437-0-9
  • SMRP: $14.95

Like fables of old, The Sneezy Wheezy Day?s two cougar kittens show human behavior in a way to which young readers can understand and relate. Who has not suffered from a stuffed nose, runny nose, chills and fever?

The cougar cubs play, bounce, pounce together UNTIL the brother falls ill. Together the two search for a cure. White Owl, Royal Stag, Canadian Goose, Red Fox, Razorback Hog, and Grizzly Old Bear all suggest things that, unfortunately, do not work. Then the sister comes up with an idea. She gives him tea, wraps him up warm, and sends him to rest. It works. It is nice to know someone really cares.

Accompanying the story is artworks rich in browns, yellows, oranges, and greens. It looks lovely and has the feel of nature. It helps show children?s perspectives and emotions. It works together with the rhymed verses to show things like wonder, playfulness, and faith. What reader, young or old, cannot smile at the humor of a cat hairless, shaved?

The Sneezy Wheezy Day has some words difficult for beginning readers; therefore, it probably works best as a bedtime story for someone to read aloud to the child the first time around. However, since the story is so identifiable, emerging readers can return to it time and time again to appreciate the art of words and the brush, relationships, and environment.

I just returned from visiting grandbaby Princess. She loved my reading it to her so much the first night that she had me read it to her every day until I left. She loved the tiny birds, insects, and animals incorporated into every picture. It was like a miniature search and find.

The Sneezy Wheezy Day is the third in the Cougar Cub Tales Series. Like it? Then check out Lost and Alone and/or I?m Just Like You.

If The lord is not really Our ? - Ramonas Rodeo

If The lord is not really Our god, who?s The lord? Perfectly, IMHO, Goodness isn?t really The almighty, considering that God is really a come-and-body extraterrestrial (Avec)!

There are two versions fot it probability.

And here is one particular variations. Imagine if Our god were the truth is an exceptionally ?flesh-and-blood? extraterrestrial laptop programmer, a laptop programmer who have composed a software bundle termed, say Half inchPlanet EarthInches? Even tho it?s a laptop or interactive video video game ? what about a study mission for a smart extraterrestrial pupil.

Anyhow, computer software simply talks about all the Scriptural wonders (virgin mobile births the resurrection, and so on.) or anomalies (like wherever does each of the bad weather derive from re?vis the Biblical Innundate, and exactly where have everything water eventually go how would Jonah pull through in a massive species of fish, and so on.) or dissonance (like Cain?s better half the differences between Spiritual some time to geological time). In connection with Biblical flood, no humans in fact passed away no wildlife experienced and perished, and many others, as the people and dogs ended up never ever serious to start with, just like guys like us usually are not authentic, just part of ? for want of a improved analogy ? a pc recreation sim.

Let?s suppose, for argument?s reason that inside the genuine physical Market, you can find some thousands extraterrestrial civilizations which have advanced know-how our equivalent or improved (even more leading-edge). The odds are great that most could have invented personal computers ? hardware and software. Anyone world, just like our own, have (up to now) made numerous-countless computer programs, many of which emulate life kinds ? suppose the hundreds, without a doubt countless pcOrgame titles. Without doubt these programs will increase, after a while, more complex and lifelike.

If an individual superior civilization makes numerous-1000s of individual computer software that emulate a true, or thought possible, truth, which are the probabilities that any of us will not be a type of hundreds and hundreds re?vis staying that leading-edge world that actually is present? How could you know had you been authentic, or imaginary? I maintain there is in all probability no obvious means of you being aware of.

Whether or not you will find only a reasonably handful of genuine extraterrestrial societies, but much quantity of built incorrect truth ? what chances we are some of the actual kinds but not one of the imaginaryAndsimulated many?

Is the thought actually so exit in quit subject that there are not a snowball?s prospect in hell it could be perfect? We have to browse advancements inside our private terrestrial computing chance to establish that. Pc produced simulations seem to be genuine adequate that they are employed to coach jet pilots, aircraft pilots and MDs and various mankind in skilled routines exactly where problems in teaching, if carried out serious circumstances, could be catastrophic. Our movie theatre market has now manufactured laptop or computer developed personal truth motion pictures, bypassing true famous actors and actual landscape. It?s totally possible (legalities aside) to get backside in a sense expended famous actors to celeb once again in new stage productions. Everyone has been impressed by computer system made effects in movies which have been so realistic that if you decided not to truly know superior, you should swear have been actual.

Approach any DVD retail outlet and you?ll find many online video media (pc) activities andAnd / oror simulations that one could work on your personal computer. They have ?humans? in numerous role-participating in guises which are software package made and which you get connected to. Reality element is escalating by progress. At what point will software program grow to be complicated plenty of these simulated ?beings? are sophisticated plenty of to have personal consciousness? What happens in the event the program computer programming these electronic ?humans? will become add up to the application (thinking ability) that program us? What goes on in the event the software applications sophistication surpasses that from the human beings mental faculties? Is this a lot-fetched? Methinks not. Now just switch our digital ?humans? with ourselves, as well as, just maybe, we?ve been the exclusive truth in anyone (one thing) else?s true truth.

When we, Planet Earth, and our seen universe aren?t anything but a simulation, that will describe (well , rationally take into account) any and all anomalies (miracles?) that you just choose to mention. Application (whether it be from the moist-ware [heads] or from the laptop selection) can produce any sort of simulated simple fact ? no even need to be realistic or explainable. Here are just a number of Scriptural cases down the top of my go.

Spiritual One: Make clear the parting with the Reddish colored Ocean within the Holy bible! It?s simple to do inside the films, on the laptop, or in your mind.

Scriptural Two: Plus there is this Scriptural touch about Joshua powerful sunlight to face continue to (at the least that is generate an income recollect it). That may be the tall saga or a myth or the consequence of simulation. Whatsoever, it would not often be a physical reality.

Spiritual A few: In the Holy bible we?ve this story in the increasing number of loaves and within a out from practically nothing. All over again, imagine it, that is about it. Furthermore with any kind magic it?s easy to picture the case, but considerably trickier to clarify it. But, as with regards to loaves and within a, you can publish an application deal that can repeat this multiplication task for a sim physical exercise.

Scriptural 4: Shangri-la and Terrible can be accomplished as easily each and every other sort of position, filled with frequently fluffy light atmosphere and pearly whitened throughways harps and haloes, or devils and pitchforks flames and brimstone!

Scriptural A few: If a person (as well) is looking the simulation photos, you might obviously and easily be resurrected or reincarnated or simply able to stop being (that is certainly, taken off from your program).

From the suggestions earlier mentioned, I end that this practically would seem just like an individual (a little something) is in the long run the cause of components of the Biblical part of the Universe, but he / she And / or it / they did not really consider things by means of completely. Methinks an exciting knowing, all strong supernatural Lord sort getting won?t have filled things up. In case the Somebody is not a stuffed up little bit of fictional function, I am not sure precisely what is given it was frequently authored by defective mankind and thus has nothing regarding the infallible phrase of Goodness, or it had been developed crammed up it is because the inventor was obviously a defective skin-and-blood vessels extraterrestrial enterprise, and almost never a-realizing and all-highly effective Goodness. Our defective originator developed a simulated whole samsung galaxy s2 white world, including each of the Scriptural bags we have to make an effort to get back having a excellent designer God (who, inside my model, won?t exist).

Could there be an afterlife without getting a The lord? It is suggested that when there is an afterlife, you need to have an all-natural instead of unnatural procedure, which we might be pushed to get just one. Because I cannot imagine a totally organic outline to are the cause of any probable changeover from daily life to afterlife, I?ll think of a non-supernatural one particular, though it may not be totally healthy. As it is really while in the whole world of probability we occur as program in a software program called Half inchThe Planet?, also may there be another computer program with involved software package identified as InchesThe Character PlanetIn or Half inchThe Household of the AfterlifeIn .. While you get to your cancelling for a simulated living finding yourself in In .EarthInch, you get raised from the dead in ?The Character EarthIn .. Needless to say because impression there is certainly however a the almighty, but a ?god? who just is usually an extraterrestrial computer system engineer, who may very well be tissue and our blood, or simply a synthetic intellect in its own right. In either case, it isn?t really 100Percent normal, but it?s not necessarily unnatural. Obviously for everyone I do know there perhaps other software programs with names like Half inchHellInch and Half inchBlissIn or ?ValhallaInch or possibly dozens, lots even thousands of other individuals we?ve never even developed or been aware of. What i?m saying is the virtual beings in a terrestrial laptop or online games would not don?t forget that clearly there was 1000s of other pc or game titles available with many additional remaining generated and got out each and every thirty days.

It makes sort of impression although inside of a bizarre or strange almost sci-fi way. I am talking about, in other words a somewhat renowned observation, Inthe market is not merely complete stranger than we picture, it?s stranger than we can think aboutInches. If there?s anybody that may give a conclusive evidence that and also a a production of somebody?s (something is) electronic simple fact (laptop or computer simulators) then I?d like to listen to it so i could cross punch the scenario out of my set of things to have to settle for!

That absent, should there be any historic data for the the almighty, gods or maybe the The lord, then that evidence could as easily be both equally viewed as proof for the presence of extraterrestrial cleverness(ohydrates), as their intent(azines) or objective(ohydrates) may not be everything civilized.

So my secondly plus more likely probable methods ?if Goodness just isn?t The almighty, then that?s Our god?Ha are summed up by the well-known key phrase ?ancient astronauts?. Our god is, or was, an extraterrestrial, but is not in cases like this the originator of any simulated world. Fairly, a getting within a seriously real galaxy. Try to remember (the past due) Arthur Do. Clarke?s 3rd rules, In .any completely advance technological innovation is indistinguishable from miracleHalf inch, or perhaps in this framework, a complicated extraterrestrial technology and noncitizen currently being welding identical is indistinguishable from the supernatural or even a supernatural Lord.

Should the previously argument applies, then I deduce that it?s not hard to investigate the spaces and crannies of our universe, to see that any of us don?t have any place to work and cover up, that you have to without a doubt have been discovered by extraterrestrials. Because more than one extraterrestrial design societies have completed their frankly likely researching element, it seems logical that at different instances in your geological and record we will have obtained website visitors from your megastars. If one or two these kinds of incidences transpired in our track record, there could be some suggestive proof of exact thereby the very idea of the ?ancient astronaut? has come into the equation.

Erich Von Daniken, including that regarding an identical standpoint who came before and after him, along got the tiniest seed of advisable, but he, and they also, IMHO acquired somewhat frantic while using concept and started experiencing ancient extraterrestrial astronauts regarding every chart and megalith available. Now I can?t feel for just a moment that aliens, or humans served by aliens, made the pyramids or even the art forms at Easter time Isle as well as other sort of archaeological monument. Information suggestive of historic jet pilots will most likely most effective be seen in misconceptions and legends, such as the misconceptions and icons fundamental to significant beliefs, possibly in innovative our comprehension of methodical methods out from connect with this special traditions so website hosting that information, maybe in art works, as well as other historical will work which can be an indication of a knowledge of sky creatures.

First of all, most nationalities have stories and pictograms about or of atmosphere beings, like the Australian aboriginals and Usa Indians. Beliefs and stories bordering, say, the Ancient greek language / Roman Versus Norse gods could be construed within an historic astronaut wording (it?s the same for other faith based beings or gods), as well as Scriptural ?Wheel of Ezekiel? is effective. Even though the etchings within the Basic of Nazca were being not really fashion runways, for hurtling disks, they could be viewed as big human systems designed to rise above the crowd by air creatures. Why look at the issues if air beings are not definitely all around to appreciate your attempts?

Then there?s an entire marijuana-stuffed with mythic pets ? the Centaur, unicorns, the Sphinx, the Griffin, Pegasus, the Minotaur, mermaids, mythical beasts, etc. which might be not for-humanoid extraterrestrial living sorts. Or, a lot more really, possibly in light of the UFO abduction and Roswell greys, are definitely the myths and figures shared by many people nationalities handling elves, dwarves, gnomes, the fairy-men and women, the late-folks, and also other small creatures which are not rather man. It visits me as more sensible why these ?wee folk? really are available, which explains why all the sources to, and belief in, them, are present. That is definitely, there?re really actual vis?re personal references to, and belief included, while there is some psychological, sociological or ethnic requirement to design mythical beings, dialing it mythology (rather than fictional misinformation), or maybe dialling it religious beliefs.

To conclude, the ?ancient astronaut? area is usually a issue ready for in depth educational review, and the idea of the ?ancient astronaut? should not be disregarded by college students are quickly as it has been. Regrettably, it truly is unlikely any school would place her or his occupation endangered by chasing this sort of marked by controversy, ?pseudo-scientific, issue because the ?giggle? component ? Pity that.

China vows to continue crackdown on Tibetan unrest (AP)

BEIJING ? China on Tuesday vowed to crack down on unrest in Tibetan areas and accused overseas activist groups and the Dalai Lama of fomenting the recent violence.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said clashes last month between Tibetans and security forces in Sichuan province were the work of criminals and were instigated by overseas groups advocating for Tibetan independence.

"We believe that this is a case of a handful of criminals illegally gathering and smashing and looting," Liu said in a routine briefing.

He added that the "surprising" promptness with which overseas Tibetan activist groups reported the unrest "showed that they have colluded and premeditated the incidents." Liu also accused the Dalai Lama, the Tibetans' spiritual leader, of preaching that actions were more powerful than prayer.

"The Chinese government will resolutely crack down on any attempt to incite violence or to disrupt national unity and integrity," Liu said.

His remarks came a day before vigils called for by the self-declared Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharmsala, India, are to take place.

More than a dozen monks and nuns have set themselves on fire in ethnic Tibetan areas of Sichuan over the last year. Most have chanted for Tibetan freedom and the return of the Dalai Lama, who fled to India amid an abortive uprising against Chinese rule in 1959.

Beijing accuses the Dalai Lama and his supporters of encouraging the immolations.

This has been the region's most violent period since 2008, when deadly rioting in Tibet's capital, Lhasa, spread to Tibetan areas in adjoining provinces. China responded by flooding the area with troops and closing Tibetan regions entirely to foreigners for about a year.

Western reporters trying to visit that part of Sichuan in the last several weeks have been turned away by security forces.

The 'Choking Game': 1 in 7 College Kids Has Tried It (Time.com)

College students aren't necessarily renowned for their good judgment, and a new study reinforces that, finding that nearly one in seven co-eds has played the Choking Game, which is every bit as dangerous as it sounds.

Also called the Fainting Game, Pass Out, or Space Monkey, the Choking Game can be played individually or in groups. It consists of manually choking yourself or others, sticking a plastic bag over the head, tying a string around the neck or hyperventilating, all in search of a few seconds of euphoria. (See TIME's health and medicine covers.)

Researchers at The Crime Victims' Institute at Sam Houston State University surveyed 837 students at a Texas university and found that the behavior, which works by cutting off blood flow to the brain in order to induce a high, was frighteningly commonplace:

?16% of students said they'd played the game, and three-quarters more than once
?On average, students first played the game at age 14
?Males were more likely to have played than females
?90% of students who had played the game learned about it from friends, and most students said they first played in a group

Why in the world would kids engage in this potentially deadly behavior? In a word, curiosity. They may also not realize it has the potential to be just as deadly as illegal drugs. The good news is that learning that a number of teens and college students have suffocated to death from playing the Choking Game helped deter students from playing. Parents, talk to your kids. And schools can play a role too: related research found that 90% of parents think that including information about the dangers of the game in school health and drug prevention classes is a smart idea.(MORE: For Teens Who Cut, Going Online Can Sometimes Help)

As the study notes:

"This 'game,' as it is often called, does not require obtaining any drugs or alcohol, is free, and can go undetected by many parents, teachers, physicians, and other authority figures. Most importantly, many of those who engage in this activity, do not understand that the practice can be just as deadly as the illegal substances youth have been warned against."

Home Improvement Projects to Complete Before Putting Your Home ...

If you really find this article helpful Give it a PLUS from below and help us to spread it.

If you?re trying to sell your house, there are certain home improvement projects that can make the sale go simpler. Of course, not all potential renovations or improvements are excellent investments. Keep reading to learn which projects are most worth it in terms of selling your house and which projects are small more than giant time sucks.

Examine the inside of your house and look for the items that are not working, look ancient or just ragged and worn out. Even though it might not seem vital, the lampshades or the curtains in the windows can have a swaying effect on the feelings of the people who are looking at your home. When people view things that look like they have not been taken care of, people may be turned off, despite the fact that it may be a subconscious feeling. Therefore, you might wish to buy some new window coverings. This can make the rooms inside of your home look new and sparkling, plus it does not cost a bunch of money. The same is applicable to furniture therefore you should hide any chairs that are missing legs or any couches or ottomans that have worn out upholstery. Inspect your home and make sure you everything looks excellent and is in working order. To help sell your home quickly, make sure it is clean and tidy ? a cluttered home will never sell. It is vital that these people not see the cluttered mess as this plays a psychological role in regard to whether they buy or not. But, it makes the space look smaller, and it makes the impression of chaos, or at least disorganization. This makes the home less attractive to many possible buyers. If you do not have another place to go, place all of this in storage so that it is out of sight out of mind. Making your house look neater and more spacious can add considerably to its appeal and value.

Home security is something many people are concerned with today. If you do not already have a security system in place, it?s a excellent thought to at least consider having one installed. This could include an alarm and security cameras. This is something that you will have to give a lot of thought to, though. Depending on where you live, potential buyers might be impressed that your house is equipped with a state of the art security system. On the other hand, it might also have the opposite effect and suggest that the neighborhood isn?t very safe. The truth is that the best approach here is one that goes down the middle of the road; place in the high tech security system but don?t place a whole lot of emphasis on it when you are showing the house to buyers. Home improvement projects are certainly a way that you can improve your home very quickly and get a fantastic price for it. Some of these are genuinely helpful, while others might be a waste of your money. Your potential buyer, and their mindset, are what you need to focus on ? do a home improvement project that you reckon they would approve of and it will certainly help you make the sale.

Police: Missing barista abducted from stand

By msnbc.com staff

Samantha Koenig was last seen Wednesday night.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska ? An 18-year-old barista who disappeared from the coffee stand where she worked was abducted, police said Friday.

Samantha Koenig was last seen late Wednesday night. Surveillance video showed her leaving the Common Grounds Espresso stand with a man wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and possibly a baseball cap, Detective Sgt. Slawomir Markiewicz said, according to the Anchorage Daily News.

Markiewicz said it appeared the man was armed but wouldn?t say what sort of weapon he had.

"The video leaves little doubt that she was abducted," Markiewicz told mnsbc.com. "No one?has seen?her since she left."

Authorities have not identified the man in the video.

The Associated Press reported that court records show Koenig filed for a protective order against a man in November, but the order was not issued because she failed to show up in court.

Koenig?had worked at the coffee stand for a little less than a month, Common Grounds owner Michelle Duncan?Duncan?told the Anchorage Daily News.?She was energetic and?bubbly and hadn't said anything to the other baristas about any kind of displeasure about the job, Duncan said.

"What I know of her, it definitely seems uncharacteristic to just walk away at the end of the day and not be heard from," Duncan told the newspaper.

Koenig is 5 feet,?4 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She has?brown hair and eyes.

WIMCIP Articles ? Small Business Advertising ? 5 Strategies To ...

The majority of small business marketing is done blind.

Unfortunate, but the truth, nevertheless.

If business owners aren?t active copying each other (not realizing the copiers are themselves being copied by the ones they?re copying), then they?re attempting to emulate the marketing strategies of the enormous corporations, with their deep pockets and vast budgets.

Sorry to say all this does is lead to what?s often called ?marketing incest?, because everybody just gets dumber and dumber. In short, it doesn?t work, chiefly because there?s no way for the business owner to tell what, if anything, is in reality making him any money.

However, don?t give up just yet. Because so long as you follow a small number of simple but very powerful rules, you ?ll quickly find your advertising becomes profitable.

So here are 5 advertising secrets for successfully marketing a small business

2. Marketing with a definite call to action (direct response)

The most effective form of marketing is direct response marketing, which, in contrast to ?ordinary? advertising seeks to elicit a selected response from the target market rather than just wishing, usually in vain, to grow the ?image? of the business or promote that most nefarious of frauds, ?brand awareness?.

2. Measuring and testing

Business owners must watch every marketing piece or campaign like a falcon, and determine to the highest accuracy the responses they get. From the shortest email to the most complex multi-step direct mail campaign they MUST know what?s happening with the prospect? who?s buying, how much are they spending and what services are they spending their money on?

They can tell, with a very modest margin of error, exactly how many sales and how much profit every single item of marketing they?ve done has ever made them.

And by a procedure of stepwise-refinement, they can take so-so ads and transform them into powerful marketing machines that churn out massive profits like clockwork, year in, year out.

3. Accountableness Because sharp small business owners track every little thing, they make every ad carry its own weight.

There is no hemming and hawing and ?gut instinct? permitted. It all comes down to the numbers.

If an advertisement isn?t turning a profit, it?s cut from the campaign, in a flash.

4. Feedback, not failure

When an ad doesn?t make a profit, your average business owner falls into despair and feels he or she has missed the boat.

Savvy marketers don?t do this. They understand it?s a numbers game, and by coming up with an ad which didn?t work, they?ve learned a lesson worth learning: one more way NOT to write an ad for that product or service in that market. The key is to let your emotional attachment to results drop away and be more objective.

5. Every piece MUST include an offer

Effective marketers recognize every single piece of advertising they do MUST have one offer (and one offer only). It must be specific, clear and unambiguous.

Moreover, for best results it must be time- or quantity-limited to make it more desirable. This is altogether contrary to what common sense would suggest but it works. It?s called ?scarcity? and it?s probably the most potent weapon in the marketer?s armoury.

I promise, if you pay attention to these five simple strategies you?ll get an immediate increase in your profits.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) ? The riots that killed 74 people in Egypt were sickeningly familiar for soccer: a rush to the field by fans, fighting, a deadly stampede ? scenes replayed over and over at stadiums around the world. This time, however, there were important differences.

Most important, context. Soccer in the Arab world has long been tied to politics. Before the Arab Spring, attending soccer games was one of the few outlets to vent frustration about life under autocratic leaders. In Egypt, hardcore fans known as Ultras played an important role in the popular uprising that toppled former leader Hosni Mubarak last year.

"The background to the violence in Egypt and in the Middle East in soccer stadiums is fundamentally different from that anywhere else in the world," said James Dorsey, author of the blog, "The Turbulent World of Middle East Soccer," and an expert at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore.

The Port Said stadium where the violence erupted Wednesday after an Egyptian league match isn't a top-class stadium like Manchester United's giant Old Trafford. But nor should it have been a death trap. Built in the 1950s, it was refurbished ahead of the Under-20 World Cup organized by world soccer's governing body and hosted by Egypt in 2009.

"I know the stadium and it's a good one. It's absolutely not a stadium where there is a danger to the spectators," said Walter Gagg, a FIFA official and stadium and security adviser to the Confederation of African Football. Gagg inspected the stadium to approve its use for the 2006 Cup of Nations.

Speaking by phone, he suggested the violence was planned and that authorities had been bracing for trouble.

"There was even a question to not play the match," he said. "We think there was premeditation for what happened. It was very difficult to organize this match."

Mark Fenwick, a partner at Fenwick Iribarren Architects that designed Espanyol's Cornella-El Prat stadium and others in Qatar, Morocco and Albania, described the riot as an "escape valve for other issues" and tied to the "general state of the country."

"It's not really anything to do with football stadiums. I don't think stadiums are the culprit even if it was very far behind in terms of design," said Fenwick, author of "The UEFA Guide for Quality Stadiums." ''It does seem to be more that social and cultural differences came to a head with the reason being a football match. It could have happened in any building. Even if you have the most modern hotel with top safety precautions, if someone blocks the doors and locks the exits, you'll have the same problems."

Witnesses spoke of supporters armed with knives, sticks and stones. An Egyptian health ministry official said some deaths were caused by stabbing. That suggests police did not carry out the careful searches and bag checks common at matches in Europe and elsewhere. In the United States, fans attending this Sunday's Super Bowl will be barred not only for carrying weapons but also for such innocuous items as beach balls and frisbees.

That some fans were armed did not alone fully explain the high death toll. Supporters fleeing the armed fans crowded into a corridor leading out of the stadium, only to be crushed against a locked gate, survivors and witnesses said.

That scenario resembled disasters at other stadiums. In 1991, at least 40 people were killed in Orkney, South Africa, when panicked fans tried to escape brawls that broke out in the grandstand. Most of the dead were trampled or crushed along riot-control fences.

"This is a crowd issue, this isn't a football issue," said Geoff Pearson, a law lecturer at the University of Liverpool and author of "Football Hooliganism: Policing and the War on the English Disease."

He noted that other events, including religious ceremonies, have been beset by fatal stampedes.

"But, of course, football is the biggest sport in the world by an absolute mile and the crowds tend to be bigger," he said. "Also, unfortunately, football fans have a reputation now for being more disorderly than other types of crowd groups. Now that's not necessarily fair, but it does mean that policing methods used to police football crowds tend to be more aggressive."

"They tend to depart from the norms of good policing and good crowd management that normally you would expect, and I think that does play a key role for why it's more likely that these types of thing would happen in football." he added.

Lines of riot police in the Egyptian stadium largely did not intervene to stop the rioting, witnesses said. Some Egyptian lawmakers accused the police of allowing the riot to happen and said the security lapse was intentional, aimed at stoking the insecurity that has shaken the Arab world's most populous country since the Feb. 11 fall of Mubarak.

Dorsey said that before Mubarak's demise, his widely hated police force would have had intense security for this match between Al-Ahly and Al-Masry, but now, in the rocky transition to democracy, it is focused more on ensuring its own survival than on security.

That was echoed by Christopher Gaffney, author of "Temples of the Earthbound Gods," about stadiums and violence in Latin America.

"That the police appeared to have stood by and watched this insanity unfold speaks as much to their own potential interests in the outcome as their lack of training to deal with the situation," he said.

The rioting, he added, is a "unique situation that has much more to do with the internal political situation in Egypt than it does with soccer. It could also happen in Iraq, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, Congo, Nigeria, or any nation where there is an unstable political situation aggravated by intense sectarianism. Soccer violence is almost never an expression of football, but a reflection of larger social problems."

FIFA President Sepp Blatter demanded Thursday that the Egyptian federation furnish detailed explanations for the disaster but also suggested that nonsoccer forces may have hijacked Wednesday's game.

"Today is a black today for football and we must take steps to ensure that such a catastrophe never happens again. Football is a force for good, and we must not allow it to be abused by those who mean evil," Blatter wrote to the Egyptian federation president, Samir Zaher.

Zaher was subsequently fired by Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal el-Ganzouri along with the rest of his board.

Al-Ahly players Mohamed Aboutrika, Emad Moteab and Mohamed Barakat ? all national players for Egypt ? announced they are retiring from soccer after witnessing the rampage.

Although Wednesday's clashes did not appear to be the fault of Al-Ahly supporters, the team's renowned Ultras have often fought with police or opposing fans.

They are a "highly motivated, highly organized, highly politicized, violence-prone, street-battle hardened group," Dorsey said.

Pearson said it would be a mistake to think that well-managed and policed stadiums in Europe are immune to such violence. Handling crowds requires a combination of safe infrastructure, training for stadium workers and police, and strategies for dealing with disorder.

"All those things need to come together, and in the absence of any one of those you can have a crowd situation that gets out of control," he said. "If you start to depart from those good crowd management practices then you run the risk, even in the most modern stadium, of having one of these disasters."

ValiRx shares soar on skin cancer testing patent in Europe ...

Pdf 11:06 am by Jamie Ashcroft

?

() shares shot up around 35 per cent after the unexpected news that a newly acquired screening product for skin cancer had been granted a European patent.

The test is for a biomarker, called NAV3, which is part of an already ?well-developed? test kit.

Landing the patent means that can start marketing the product to the oncology research industry and fellow drug developers, while planning a larger product launch into the wider market.

The news sparked an exciting period of trading on the market with around 140 million shares, or 14 per cent of the company, changing hands by lunchtime.

said the news strongly vindicates the decision to acquire Finland based Pharmatest, which it secured last month in a deal worth ?137,000.

As part of the deal, ?s newly established ValiFinn acquired intellectual property relating to a number of biomarker discoveries, all of which were in the process of being patented.

Today?s patent news about one of these discoveries is unexpected bonus, director George Morris told Proactive Investors.

He explained that the idea behind the Pharmatest acquisition was too take control of the biomarker discovery business for its own purposes, rather than Pharmatest?s existing IP.

?We?ve been doing our own biomarker research, up there in Finland, in respect of our lead cancer drug compounds for use in clinical trials in therapeutic use,? he said.

?We needed somewhere to do this research. We?d already used them as a service provider, we liked what we saw and we bought the company.?

Morris added: ?We knew it (the patent for NAV3) was coming through at some point, but the fact that it came through as it did, just two weeks after we concluded the acquisition, was a pleasant surprise.

The time it takes for patents to be cleared and approved varies dramatically. They (the other acquired patents) are going through this process and they will dribble out over the next period of time.

Morris says that while NAV3 is the most advanced, it is not necessarily the most interesting of the biomarker that have been discovered and some of the other discoveries are perhaps more interesting scientifically.?

?But NAV3 is certainly a commercially important biomarker (for ),? he added.

?The test kit is already up and running. ?We now need to clinically validate it in larger numbers of people.

?We can use (sell) it for research purposes, and in certain companion diagnostics that are currently in development. So there is a possibility of getting the product into real markets right away, but to get the longer term and larger markets it will require some clinical validation.

?We are talking with a number of clinical groups about that at the moment.??

Morris says that for research purposes and developmental purposes the market is restricted to a relatively limited number of buyers - although they may buy a lot of kits.?

These customers are likely to be larger cancer drug developers and clinical research organisations, he added.

Ultimately, though will to sell these products into the larger clinical market to professional oncologists.

The testing kit will not be sold over the counter, unlike some of the group?s other diagnostic products like the Chlamydia testing kit which was launched last year.?

The NAV3 based test involves the interpretation of more complicated biomarker data, the results must therefore be read by professional oncologists, Morris explained.

It is important to point out that, according to Morris, the product will be less about diagnosing cancer, but more about managing ongoing therapy and drug personalisation.

?(The product) will be useful for therapeutics monitoring, outcome monitoring and prognosis.?

He says this kind of product is relevant to very significant market.?

?Its (application) is just part of a more generalised move towards personalised cancer therapeutics and diagnosis.

Morris uses the example of HIV and AIDS to demonstrate his point. He points out that this is a disease that people quickly died from twenty or so years ago, but now people are able to live with the disease.

This, he explains, is done by very carefully monitoring the disease and adjusting drug treatments accordingly. ??Cancer treatment, or amelioration, is going the same way. Living with cancer is becoming much more of a reality,? Morris said.

?People no longer die of breast cancer every time, now largely they live. And it is the same with an awful lot of other cancers. Prostate cancer and skin cancers, in particular, are successfully looked after a great deal more than they ever were before.

?And that?s the space we are fitting into.?

Morris says it is about being able to determine which therapeutic will work for a person, and which ones most definitely won?t.?

?NAV3 plays a significant role in determining these details. What?s more it a very simple test.?
